Produced locally at the BMW manufacturing facility in Chennai, the all-new BMW 5 Series is being positioned as the Business Athlete. Incidentally, the BMW 5 Series has had a very successful run in India till date and out of the 66,000 BMWs sold since the company got here, over 19,000 of these have been the 5 Series. With the new model, BMW is looking at taking that appeal to a whole new level.

Capable engine
Powering the new BMW 5 Series is a choice of three engine options. The two-litre four cylinder diesel engine that powers the 520d produces an output of 190 hp and produces a maximum torque of 400 Nm and the car can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds. Under the hood of the 530i is the two-litre four cylinder petrol engine that delivers 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque and is capable of taking the car from 0-100kmph in just 6.2 seconds. The third and most powerful engine in the line-up is the three-litre six-cylinder diesel engine that does duty in the new 530d. Generating 265 hp and a maximum torque of 620 Nm, the car can do the 0-100 kmph dash in just 5.7 seconds.  All the engines are mated to the eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, and you also get different driving modes such as Comfort, Sport, Sport+, ECO PRO and Adaptive.

Innovative features
Taking the driving experience to a whole new level are some new features that the 5 Series boasts off. These include BMW Gesture Control, Remote Control Parking with  Display Key, Wireless Charging, Parking Assistant with Surround View and the next-generation Head-up Display. The gesture control and remote parking modes are truly path-breaking innovations. With six predefined hand movements, you can control a number of functions on the car without having to touch any dial or screen. As for the remote parking, you can get out of the car and use the touchscreen display on the key to park the car from the outside.

Big on safety
BMW has kitted out the new 5 Series with a serious level of safety equipment which includes six airbags, ABS, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, cornering brake control, hill descent control, side impact protection, runflat tyres and a crash sensor to name a few.
