Based on the MQB platform, the Volkswagen Tiguan is currently available in over 150 markets and has sold over 3.5 million units till date. Its popularity is driven by the fact that it is a great all-rounder and well suited to both commuting in the city and heading out of town for a weekend adventure trip. It is the second generation version that has made it to our shores and it comes packed with features.

Designed to impress
The Tiguan has an aura of sophistication with a sporty undertone and is a guaranteed head turner. The sharp lines that the vehicle boasts of have an emphasis on independence and dynamism and the attention to detail ensures that it offers a premium appeal with great on-road presence. Key details include the large horizontal slat grille, LED DRLs, a panoramic sunroof and large 17-inch tyres. 

Locked and loaded
The German automaker has left no stone unturned when it comes to the cabin of the new Tiguan. Finished in an all-black theme, the cabin looks upmarket and the materials are top notch. The seats are finished in ‘Vienna’ leather, and you also get a sliver of mood lighting on the doors as well as around the sunroof. Creature comfort includes the three zone climate control air-conditioning, a large touchscreen infotainment system with AppConnect and eight speakers. The Tiguan also offers 615 litres of boot space which can be increased to 1,655 litres with the rear seat folded. For added convenience, the Tiguan also gets an easy-open boot function that can be triggered by moving your foot under the rear bumper to activate the sensor. 

Capable and safe
Powering the Tiguan is the ‘tried and tested’ 2.0-litre TDI unit that delivers 143 PS of power. Mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission, the Tiguan offers an ARAI-tested fuel efficiency of 17.06 kmpl. The SUV also boasts a host of class leading features which include Pedestrian Safety (Active Hood), six Airbags, Hill Start Assist, Auto Hold, Self-sealing tyres, Rain and Light Sensor and Keyless Entry to name a few. The Volkswagen Tiguan will also feature the 4MOTION intelligent all-wheel-drive system with variable torque transfer to the rear wheels and thus giving it the ability to handle a bit of the rough stuff. The ground clearance is apt for this kind of driving and you can take it off-roading with ease.

Verdict
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a vehicle you can’t go wrong with. It does everything right and ticks all the boxes in being a vehicle that is well suited for our driving conditions. Available in two trims, namely, Comfortline and Highline, the Tiguan is offered at `27.68 lakh and `31.04 lakh respectively (All prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai).
