After winning The Remix, DJ Su Real is on a 12-city tour including Hyderabad and Bengaluru

Indian music producer, Suhrid Manchanda, had already made a name for himself in the indie music scene when he won the popular music reality show, The Remix, last month. At the outset of his performance in the city, he spoke with Indulge, starting the conversation on a rather interesting note about his stage name, Su Real. “ I like to keep it real – be it my music or my moniker. Also, my friends call me Su. Hence, Su Real,” quips the Delhi-based DJ, adding, “Keeping it simple is something I learnt from King of Bass. While many add layers of sounds, Nucleya removes the excess and focuses on the best.”

Post his success at Amazon Prime’s music reality show, the bass music producer is on a 12-city success tour #Winning, as a part of which, he will be performing in the city tomorrow. Expect mashups of the latest chart hits with the rudest underground beats. “I’ll be adding a lot of new music that I’ve been working on lately. I love getting feedback on new tracks in the club so I can go back to the studio and tweak them again. On the #Winning tour, you hear it first,” he shares.

Going against the grain
Suhrid likes breaking norms, which is reflected in his music that can be described as explosive and bass-heavy. It was a similar approach of mixing genres that helped him create more than 15 remixes covering house, hip-hop, bass, EDM, folk-pop, funk, retro, and more during the 10-episode show. “When they approached me for casting, I was excited. However, I kept my expectations low and thought I’d not last beyond Episode 5. I expected one of the other teams with more established Bollywood cred to take the trophy. But sometimes, it’s nice to be wrong,” says Suhrid, who paired up with singer Rashmeet Kaur for The Remix. 

Closely mentored by Nucleya (one of the judges of the show), Suhrid gained popularity with his albums –Trapistan and Twerkistan. His tryst with music began when he moved to New Delhi in 2008. Prior to that, he’d studied and worked in Montreal, New York and Malaysia. Having been in the circuit for over ten years, Suhrid does not mince words when he says that his journey has mostly been rough. “You have to keep out-doing your previous accomplishments. I didn’t decide to be a music producer over one day. To keep your life in check, it’s a good idea I think, as I did, to take it one step at a time. It was many years of DJing in before I finally quit my day job,” shares Suhrid.
