Although Hyderabad has a happening music scene, there are hardly any clubs that are dedicated to playing regional music. Filling this gap is The Moonshine Project. Located in Film Nagar, the outlet believes that regional and folk numbers are an integral part of our culture, thus giving the artists the freedom to play and explore the possibilities in the field. This weekend, they’re organising a regional music festival that also features artistes from Chennai. Expect some Tamil folk rock and Telugu rap that evening.

Jhanu
Originally formed as a two-member band by brothers, Jhanu Chanthar and Udhay Bharath, Jhanu have come a long way with their energetic tunes of modern rock and Tamil poetry. Having released their first single Prachanai in 2013, the rock band’s growing popularity was amplified through Kappa TV’s live music show, Music Mojo. Bassist Jhanu has also composed music for Rajinikanth’s Kabali and Kaala

Kulam
Kulam is a folk rock band based out of Chennai. The three-piece outfit features Pradeep Kumar on guitars and vocals, Jhanu on bass and Tapass Naresh on drums and percussion.

From social issues to Hyderabad’s favourite snack, pani puri, the 28-year-old believes in using Telugu poetry and music as a tool to talk about everyday lives and the issues we face in our society.

Capricio
Capricio is a derivative of  Capriccio – a free-flowing improvisation of art. And that’s exactly what this four-member band represents. Started in 2016, the outfit is hugely popular for their covers on classics by AR Rahman and Ilaiyaraaja.
