Prince Harry and his American fiancée Meghan Markle are all set to wed in the spring of 2018, and the couple appeared at Kensington Palace's Sunken Garden on Monday for a brief moment to pose for pictures and to show off the ring, of course. The ring is made up of two diamonds from Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, and in the centre is a diamond from the country of Botswana, where the couple went on a romantic getaway early on in their realtionship.

The royal couple's first post-engagement interview, aired by CBC News, has the couple describing the night of the engagement, which took place over a roast chicken dinner. The couple also details a bit about how they met. Markle mentions how her limited understanding of the royal family and its customs came into their first blind date and says that her only concern when she was set up with Prince Harry was whether or not he was kind.

The two go on to address various aspects of their relationship that has attracted media attention, such as Markle's bi-racial background. She responds to the subject by saying , "I’m proud of who I am and where I come from. We just focus on where we are as a couple.”

The engagement was announced by a statment released by Clarence House that says that the couple will be staying in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace and that more details will be announced "in due course".

The couple is said to mark a change in the royal image, that has shifted from rigid traditionalism to a more down-to-earth approach to addressing the public. This shift is said to have started with Harry's older brother William and sister in-law Catherine, who married in 2011.
