If you think this is going to be your usual boy-meets-girl story, then think again. Ready 2 Mingle, a new show, brings together two dynamic actors as they play cupid and unite singles seeking true love.
Aahana Kumra (33) and Amol Parashar (28) are actors who have proved their mettle in their own ways. While the Delhi-based Amol is an internet sensation who went on to win hearts on TVF’s Triplings, Lucknow-based Aahana gave a spectacular performance in last year’s most critically acclaimed film, Lipstick Under My Burkha, as Leela, the spunky young beautician. A 10-episode series from The Zoom Studios, Ready 2 Mingle shows the lifestyle of a younger generation in a metro, everyday struggles of Millennials, and the consequences they face in their quest for true love. The two talk about their roles, the acting curve and what its like working together again, after their last web series It Happened In Hong Kong.

What about your characters attracted you the most? Anything similar?
Amol Parashar: My character, Nirav, is a laidback, chilled out guy who is all heart which can also be his weakness at times. If Nirav was a real person, I’d surely want to be his friend.
Aahana Kumra: Myra is very punctual, organised, systematic. It’s interesting to be able to play a character who is different and opposite to what you are in real life. At times, it is actually hilarious because as soon as the director says cut after a scene, I feel like I can breathe again.

What is it like working together again after It Happened in Hong Kong?
AP: The comfort level and chemistry we shared translated on-screen and was consequently much appreciated by the audience. That trust between actors is what elevates a good scene/story into a great one.
AK: We work together as a unit which is working well in this case too, because we get the essence of the scenes right. We improvise, rehearse well on the scenes and brainstorm as to how to make it more interesting.

Tell us about your acting career and how it has evolved since your advertising days.
AP: It is only when my first web show Tripling went on to gather a cult following, that I began to feel and be seen as a more ‘mainstream’ actor. Thanks to the interesting web work on offer right now, and all other kinds of work that is coming my way (films and ads), I feel more satisfied as I can pick and choose the kind of stories that really interest me.
AK: It has been an interesting journey after Lipstick under my Burkha released. Since then I have got a lot of scripts which constantly tried to put me under the same category where people expected me to take up bold roles. I would like to do something very substantial which is something to be spoken rather than just doing a movie for the effect.

What’s next for you?
AP: Aapkey Kamrey Mein Koi Rehta Hai is a film that I have already shot for and is expected to be out this year. There is another untitled film under development right now, which is an experimental noir film.
AK:  I am currently working on the film The Accidental Prime Minister which is slated to release on December 21.

Ready 2 Mingle releases August 11 at 7.30 pm on Zoom Styled by Myntra & YouTube
