This weekend saw Chennai’s party peeps spoilt for choice, where even the most efficient of social butterflies had some serious choices to make.Saturday presented one of those, where one half of the crowd was at Madras Music Academy for Anu Menon’s solo stand up comedy show. It was a comprehensive act including everything from cross-cultural tidbits, to historical references, to the woes of being a parent. My favourite was when she said “Young girls will come up to me and say — Anu you don’t look like a mother. Which begs the question: What is a mother supposed to look like?” Of course the audience wasn’t spared either. There’s always that moment of panic when a comedian on stage says ‘you there!’, thankfully she was pointing to someone in the row behind me. Phew!

The other half of the ‘party peeps’ had made their way to Surf Turf to celebrate Covelong Point Surf School’s third birthday. Safe to say that most everyone found the offer of a beachside Open Mic night just too hard to resist, with loads of people landing up, in the mood to party. And party they did, throwing caution to the wind, the amateurs giving the professionals a run for their money, on the microphone. Fun attempts aside, Vasu and Badri entertained the crowd like true rockstars all night, the former on the drums and the latter on guitar and vocals. Music gave way to dancing and the night ended to shouts of ‘one more! One more!’

On Sunday, The British Deputy High Commission had a luxury event, starting with the launch of a hybrid luxury car Lexus followed by a Men’s fashion show. With the clinking of whiskey glasses and special dinner, celebrities were in the mood for a fun gathering and celebration.
Adding a bit of variety to the mix was the pre-meet of Inspired Moms at The Brew Room, a coffee morning in the lead up to the main event next month. Antara Pandit and Moina Memon, the founders of the project, decided to bring the panelists together for a lighthearted chat, which included the sharing of some rather interesting stories — some funny, others thought provoking. The clan of cool moms included Shvetha Jaishankar, Puja Puneet, Mahima Poddar and Kavita Saraf.
