“A funded startup is like playing musical chairs. Either VCs fund new chairs or you sell the remaining for others to play.” Sounds familiar? This question has nothing to do with anyone’s employment status, it’s just an observation by the funny man, cartoonist Balraj KN.

After a gap of five years, Balraj is back in the spotlight with his new exhibition that opens tonight. “It’s the best of my work from the last three years. Cartoons that I have created whenever I have found the time to scribble and draw. There is a range of things that I have pondered over,” says Balraj. From relationships (couples and parental), office humour, jokes on startups and entrepreneurs, to traffic situations, Balraj has a cartoon for each. “People from every walk of life will find a piece here. These are all episodes from my daily observances — what I read and observe,” states Balraj who like most creative minds prefers to work during the night, when silence reigns and people are fast asleep.

From a cartoon that depicts the back of an autorickshaw that says, “I have said a ‘NO’ to my own wife, that too at double meter” to cartoons that depict job interview humour (Your resume made a great first impression. You came in and ruined it), certainly there is a lot of humour packed into the
58 pieces that will be on display and up for sale.
Show opens tonight at the Art of Delight, Residency Road. Rs 800++ upwards. Details: 40913229
