Kalasha offers a mix of jewellery carved by artisans across India

THE grandeur of the latest jewellery store,  Kalasha Fine Jewels by CapsGold, strikes you from the word go. It impresses with its imposing sign board with the name of the store written in gold-plated letters right at the entrance.

Jadau love
As we made our way into the store that spans 6,500 square feet we see that it is divided into three levels. Director Abhishek Chanda, leads us to the first section. What catches our eye from the word go are uncut jadau diamond necklaces. At times, paired with jhumkas and chand balis, this section is for those hunting for traditional pieces. Keep an eye out for the unsung pieces in this section. They might not make it to the shelves but are as unique as it gets. For instance, the vaddanam with diamonds, emerald drops and rubies is exactly what a bride-to-be is looking for.

Rose gold rules
The section adjacent to that and right in front of the Nizami Lounge offers a breathtaking array of bracelets in rose gold and diamonds amongst other things. The store is also known for its range of diamond-studded Vinayakudu pendants and they can be spotted here. The lounge, opposite us, is designed to remind shoppers of Hyderabad’s Nizami splendour with black and white photographs and regal sofas. As you can imagine this makes for a comfortable option for the high-end patrons to go through design after design, before they decide which one to take home. The ground floor also has a section for lightweight jewellery, that stocks up on the latest arrivals. Here, you might find studs and specialised necklaces that could suit your work wear as well.

Specialised designs
When you go one floor up, the temple jewellery lounge welcomes you with a beautiful Madhubani painting on the wall. Two smaller than usual mannequins, decked up in bright saris showcase richly-carved neckpieces from the brand’s temple jewellery line. “The Nakshi collection, where designs are mostly handcrafted can at times take four to six months to create,” says Abhishek. The store is tied up with artisans from all over the India, from Jaipur to Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad. “For instance, if you want jewellery with Meenakari work, the artisans in Jaipur will work on it and if you want to purchase a Nakshi piece, artisans from Tamil Nadu will chip in,” continues the store director.

Trains and telephones
That’s not all. The second floor also houses artefacts with a vintage finish, in handcrafted silver. You can also shop for an old classic rotary telephone in silver – they work if you get a functional connection. Replicas of trains that double up as dry fruit containers and fountains with exquisite carvings.
