Long flowy dresses for the red carpet, strong-shouldered silhouettes exploring power dressing and quirky embellishments and surface detailing define the second edition of the Coimbatore Style Week that is set to take place this weekend in association with Indulge. Showcasing apparel from 32 designers from Coimbatore, Mysuru, Bengaluru and Puducherry, here’s a closer look at some of the trends that are set to rule the runway.

Bling on
Spotlighting the theme — ‘fizz’, city-based designer S Pavithra uses a bright colour palette of gold and peach to showcase the idea of effervescence. “Transposing the idea of the bubbles and sparkle, my fish-cut gown makes extensive use of glass and kundan work,” shares the 23-year-old, who will showcase a single georgette garment at the style week.

Keep in check
Offering some serious nostalgia from the movie Clueless, the plaid for the autumn trend is having a moment in Bexy Dutta’s showcase. Part of a group of five designers highlighting the iconic plaid print, a boxy silhouette and formal wear takes centre stage in the 33-year-old’s single garment display. Using a maroon and navy blue checkered combination, the Mysuru designer has fashioned a light structured jacket and easy trousers that is a 9 to 9 look.

Colour crunch
Designer Shanti Priya’s love for bold colours, and the fit and flare silhouette comes through her five garment collection. Featuring a range of gowns, umbrella cut skirts and bustier tops, the 22-year-old makes a case for stone embroidery and sequined fabrics. “The theme of my showcase is exquisite and this has translated into brightly hued garments which feature a palette of blue, green, red and pink.”

Gala affair
Familiar to the fashion conscious in the city through her label Fascino, Shiny Anto’s latest collection is a tribute to the red carpet. Featuring a range of silhouettes from a mermaid dress to a high-low dress, the line features a wine and peach colour palette in net and lace. Giving us a sneak peek of her showstopper’s outfit that will be donned by actress Harija of Eruma Saani fame, this gown will feature 4,500 roses as its surface embellishment.

Out of this world
An attempt at translating the theme galaxy into silhouettes, Coimbatore-based A Banu Priya’s collection makes use of a palette ranging from black, blue to off-white. High on surface technique, the 29-year-old will be showcasing concepts like the milky way and blackhole through a series of gowns featuring sequined patchwork, ruffles and pleats in velvet fabric. “The collection, which primarily uses velvet as its base fabric, also employs stone and beadwork throughout.”

By invite only. At Le Meridien.  October 13. From 4 pm.
