Peanut butter fish on the roof anyone? Marinades just got fun

Having done a weekend of vegetarian food, I was curious about the meat line-up at the grill festival at Turyaa, the boutique hotel down OMR. And trust me when I say – it was a delightful contrast to my weekend dining. Aptly called Samasa (Fusion in Sanskrit), their rooftop restaurant, a 20-seater space, was the venue for their Grill Your Way to Thrill festival that offers six varieties of vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian options that change on a daily basis. “The menu is not fixed and we would be preparing 12 different grills everyday throughout the festival. Each non-vegetarian dish takes at least a good three to four hours for marination,” says Anand L, executive chef, Samasa.

Starting with a Chicken Momo soup, I am already a  part of the meat marathon before my last spoonful is done. Though there were a bunch of classics like Pesto Grill Prawns and Peri Peri Fish, the Peanut Butter Fish is what hits the spot. “The Seer fish is marinated along with peanut powder, chilli paste, sweet chilli sauce and regular seasonings along with sesame oil and slow cooked. Then we keep it in the refrigerator for at least three hours before frying the fish,” he explains.

The mains include dal, rice, veg and non-veg curries, besides the Chicken biryani with mixed raitha. Predictably, I pick the biryani and though I thought I was too full for dessert, I still manage to wipe clean a bowl of rasamalai.

At Samasa till April 30. Price per head Rs 1,199. Details: 66970000
