Amidst 60 different shops at the OMR Food Street, this six-month-old place exclusively dishes out hot dogs. Jango’s promises a pocket-friendly American street food menu with 30 varieties of hot dogs made of chicken only. It is a 12-seater, compact with mango wood tables and stools painted in streaks of black, blue and red. One can find superhero comics and film posters on the walls. They have special offers and theme menus on Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween and such. Adding on to it, there is also a vegetarian menu offering Mac ‘N’ Cheese, Mushroom ‘N’ Onion and Indian Paneer Tikka dog.
We start off with their signature dish, Rancho Chicken. The sausage is moist and succulent, neatly sandwiched between toasted buns. Filled with cream and yoghurt and shredded pieces of grilled chicken, this one is sure to have you coming back for more. To make it even more flavoursome, the filling is seasoned with crushed gherkins and parsley. We move forward to Chili dogs made using Gordon Ramsay’s recipe. The filling is made of tangy minced chicken curry, giving it a desi touch.
“We have a set of expat customers who actually suggested that we added more American choices like scrambled egg dog, Greek hot dog and San Fransico dog,” says Chennai-based owner, Jana Ranjini, elaborating that they are planning to add Caribbean and Jamaican dogs to the platter soon. What comes next is the much sought-after dessert, a Churro ice-cream sandwich. Every bite of this cinnamon-rich, palm sugar coated and fried dough accompanied with a vanilla scoop just melts in the mouth. “Very soon we will be introducing 99 varieties of hot dogs and toppings like Indian curry and Bloody Mary ketchup. We are also planning on a bigger venture in about a year,” says the 26-year-old.The restaurant also has a take away and delivery option.
