Brick House Bistro is our beacon for bacon

From Bangers and Mash to a Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict, Brick House Bistro goes full hog with their newly introduced brunch menu
Brick House Bistro is our beacon for bacon

Sausages, bacon or pepperoni? There is nothing flippant about this question on a Saturday morning, with noon fast approaching. And browsing through the options   at Brick House  Bistro in Anna Nagar, which recently launched a new weekend brunch menu — can place any self-respecting meat enthusiast in a predicament.

Fortunately, Yeshvin Mathew (26), co-owner and the man behind the kitchen has curated a platter that includes all of the above. He calls it ‘The Porky Affair’ and with a generous serving of sausages, bacon rashes, pepperoni slices, a double sunny-side up, mushrooms and mashed potato — this marathon platter does not disappoint.

Partner in crime, Tanush Thomas (32), tells us that though this is the first time that pork is being  featured on the menu, the idea is one they actually started out with back when Brick House was still being conceptualised in early 2014.

“At the time, we were worried how it would be received and we didn’t want to offend people’s sentiments so we decided to wait it out and get a feel of our customers first,” he says. Turns out, “Folks in Anna Nagar love their sausages just as much as we do,” he says with a smile.

Slurping on a flavour bomb concoction of Chocolate and Peanut butter smoothie (this one isn’t drowning with ice like most), we ready ourselves for more. There’s a Bacon and Feta omelette and a baked Goan Sausage bowl if you are in the mood for a light breakfast. While the Steak and Eggs or Bangers and Mash (sausages dunked  in   the in-house brown sauce and paired with mashed potato) make for heavier choices. The most filling  on the quantity scale is the much-awaited Pulled Pork Eggs Benny — which arrives with a spicy portion of pork on top of a bun, topped with a poached egg and a drizzle of hollandaise. The sauce admittedly is not on par with the rest of the dish. But for the love of Eggs Benedict — we’ll definitely give this one another shot soon. The extra fluffy Chocolate Nutella Pancake hits our sweet spot to conclude, as we drive away — day dreaming of pigs, far away from their blankets.
