Adding to the growing list of restaurants in Secunderabad is the recently-opened PVR’s Food Garage. The casual dining restaurant is named after the initials of the owners — Praveen Mamidala, Vijay Kumar Manda and Rakesh Gupta Puligilla, who recently graduated in engineering and have chosen food as their career paths.

Located in the buzzing Trimulgherry road, the 50-seater restaurant offers an industrial décor with distressed wooden elements, complemented by exposed brick wall. Staying true to their idea of a ‘food garage’, the restaurant has replicas of cars and bicycles. “We’re mechanical engineers and we love tools and cars. So, we wanted to use both of them to create an impression of a garage,” says Rakesh, pointing out to the clock made of hand tools.

Before we dig into our first dish, Potato Dragon, Rakesh gives us a heads-up that this starter is the spiciest of all. Two spoons of the dish, and we thank him for the disclaimer. If you’re ordering this one, we suggest you pair with their chilled Lime Soda. Vegetarians can also try Mix Veg Sticks (a mix of vegetables including bell pepper and corn, are cooked together in sweet chilli sauce). The Buffalo Wings (inspired by the popular American appetiser) are perfectly cooked in sweet and spicy barbeque sauce, which has us going for seconds.

For mains, we’re served the Nizami Handi (a mix of vegetables cooked in a gravy made of cashew nuts and onion and tomato puree), Afghani Murgh (Tandoori chicken pan fried in a flavoured butter sauce) and Naanza. Our favourite among the two is the Nizami Handi, which goes well with the piping hot cheese-stuffed naan

We end our meal with the Choco Freakshake. Word of caution, though — if you’re ordering this one after a heavy meal, we suggest you share it with your companion. The shake comes with a huge scoop of ice cream, milkshake and a bar — all three of them in chocolate. The overdose of chocolate was slightly overwhelming, so we save the Fried Banana Ice Cream (banana fried and served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce) for our next visit.
