The all new Punjab Bistro opens with a bang

This bistro offers an extensive Punjabi menu with some regional favourites such as Laal Maas and Pathar Ka Ghosht

Chaamp Taajdar

The newest Punjabi fine dining restaurant that’s opened where Punjab Grill once stood, in Koramangala, Punjab Bistro comes with an all new menu but like its predecessor, promises authentic Punjabi food. In addition to Punjabi dishes, one can also expect options from other regions.

We started with the highly recommended Pathar Ka Ghost. Featuring tender, well cooked slices of mutton, this dish tasted very close to what is served in the city of Nizams. The next mutton starter that truly impressed us was the Chaamp Taajdar. We were told the marination of yoghurt and tamarind puree is pot-roasted with the mutton ribs and that’s what makes the flavour so dramatic.

Fry high
For those who prefer white meat, we suggest the Murgh Malai Tikka and the Talava Fish. The highlight of the Murgh Malai Tikka was the creamy cashew nut marination. Made with Seer fish, the Talava Fish was pan fried with the classic marination of chilli, turmeric and garlic. This one was also well-cooked.

While vegetarians have many options to try, we recommend the Beetroot Peanut Tikki. The sweetness of the beetroot paired well with the nuttiness of the peanuts. The addition of chilli made this a winning combination. For main course, we chose Murgh Rogani, Dal Moradabadi and Laal Maas with Sheermal and Chur Chur Paratha. The Murgh Rogani was a home-style chicken gravy with a aromatic freshly ground garam masala flavour. The Laal Maas packed a punch with its red chilli -based curry. Dal Moradabadi,  moong dal topped with fried moong and chopped onions, tomatoes and coriander, gave the dal a chaat-like taste.

Bread easy
The Chur Chur Paratha was mighty impressive. Stuffed with mashed potato, paneer, cheese and jeera, the paratha was sliced (chur chur) before it was served. The rustic flavour of smoked stuffed bread stood out the most.

For dessert, we tried the Indian version of the classic French treat Mille Feuille, the Bistro Special Mille Feuille. Mini jamoons and strawberries with cream were layered between thin wafers and served with a drizzle of castor sugar. The slight tanginess of strawberries with the sweetness of jamoons worked for our palate, while the cream balanced the flavours.

With such extensive offerings, Punjab Bistro lives up to its promise of not only serving authentic Punjabi food but also classics from other parts of the country.
