Meet this team that gives you a solution for all your breakup woes

Almost all of us who have been through messy relationships have felt down in the dumps for either being friend zoned or for a breakup. Unlike a lot of others, Kasyap Sreenivas dealt with it rather differently. “I was friend zoned by a girl a couple of years ago. When I spoke to people, I realised that most of them were confused about relationships on the whole. That’s when the idea of writing a comedy web series on breakups struck me,” says the 27-year-old writer and director.

In July this year, Kasyap, also the founder of city-based production group Navika Factory, released The Breakup Consultant that soon pervaded popular culture in the city where dialogues from the show flooded internet memes. The 10-episode series is based on funny situations where the breakup consultant solves relationship troubles, mostly leading to a breakup for the right reasons. Kasyap says that each episode is inspired by a true breakup story of somebody in his circle. The plot is packed just right for this generation with perfect amounts of humour and gyan. “I had worked on two breakup-related short films earlier, which helped me write this 150-minute story,” he shares. 

While he garnered as many as 230,000 views, what excites this engineering graduate is the personal feedback he received from young viewers who said the episodes helped them fix issues in their relationships. “A few also wrote to me asking me if I offer breakup solutions in real life. But the biggest reward was when directors Ramgopal Varma and Sukumar retweeted one of our episodes,”
he shares. As for 2018, Kasyap plans to come back with The Breakup Consultant, bigger, better and funnier. Apart from the web series, he is also working on a feature film.
