Aimed at orienting tourists about the tea culture of The Nilgiris, collector Innocent Divya announced that the Tea and Tourism Festival would be held in summer instead of January like in previous years. In line with the suggestions made by the teas manufacturers in the district, the collector believes that the festival will coincide with the tourist season in The Nilgiris.
An event where multiple state and central organisations like the Tea Board in the Union Ministry of Commerce and Tamil Nadu tourism department come together, the Tea and Tourism Festival allows tea manufacturers in the state to showcase the varieties of teas in production.

Among the most captivating tea hub for visitors and tourists is the Denali-Sogathorai-Kuppakuzhi belt, some seven kilometres from Coonoor. The entire belt is flushed with tea, but what is interesting is that the growers have taken care to do ornamental-style of planting without upsetting the terrace topography of the peaks and valleys. From the road, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking view of hundreds of acres of tea plantations in all 360 degrees.
Growers pluck the two-leaves-and-a-bud for manufacturing quality tea and leave a clean table of bushes creating an equal height as if a table is laid out. The only sight breaking the monotony of the tea fields are the silver oak trees, the mountains and the clear blue sky. Notwithstanding the timing of the Tea and Tourism Festival, these sights are a feast for the eyes, be it summer or winter.
