WHEN Jaguar came out with the F-Pace, expectations were obviously rather high. They were entering unchartered territory, as this was the first SUV from their stable. Having said that, the F-Pace has gone on to silence the critics and is possibly one of the hottest luxury SUVs available in the market today. After all, it drives like a sportscar, yet to you can take it anywhere and not have to worry about potholes, speed breakers or a little dirt. Sure, it sounds like the perfect package and it lives up to those standards as well.

Sporty elegance
The Jaguar design philosophy has been seamlessly carried out on the F-Pace. All the key elements are there including the signature grille, headlights and taillights. Add to that, the sheet metal has been sculpted to offer the vehicle a sporty appeal which definitely looks inspired by the big jungle cat that the carmaker gets its name from. Completing the package are the 18-inch, multi-spoke alloys and twin exhaust pipes at the rear.

Luxury on wheels
The F-Pace gets the same treatment to the cabin that we have seen on their extravagant sedans. It boasts of a simple and uncluttered look. The generous use of high-quality plastics and fine materials is what brings about the luxe feel. You also get a l a r g e infotainment unit and a digital instrument cluster which is very new-age and is complemented by the ambient lighting. The cabin is spacious and you also get a generous boot.

Dynamic and efficient
Powering the Jaguar F-Pace 20d Prestige is an all-aluminium 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine and produces 180 PS of power and 430 Nm of torque. Despite being the entry-level variant, the manufacturer has ensured that the engine remains rather capable both in terms of performance as well as efficiency. Power delivery is smooth and linear and the 8-speed automatic transmission ensures that you remain in the peak of the powerband to enjoy a spirited driving experience. The F-Pace also benefits from various driving modes that include Dynamic, Normal and Eco to suit various driving conditions. It also gets all-wheel-drive and can take corners like a sports car! With a 0-100 kmph dash done in 8.7 seconds, it is rather quick as well.

The verdict
Jaguar’s F-Pace is a practical option, if you’re in the market for a luxury SUV. The 2.0-litre diesel variant offers ample power and is quite efficient as well, however, if you are looking for more power, there is the larger 30d version available to fulfil your need. Having said that, it is a vehicle that stands out from the crowd and has the ability to turn heads like no other. The Jaguar F-Pace range starts from `67 lakh in India.
