Ride review: We find out why the Audi Q5 is a global bestseller
At a glimpse, you could mistake the new Audi Q5 for its larger sibling, namely the Q7. In fact, Audi themselves stated that the Q5 is like a baby Q7. Having said that, it is a big step up from its predecessor and is now better in just about every department.
The new car is bigger and wider than its predecessor. It now boasts of a sleek design with a more chiselled look than before and the sharp shoulder line adds to the flair. Like all Audi’s the attention to detail to the headlight cluster is immaculate and the LEDs resemble a ‘Q’. The new Q5 sits on nice large 18-inch alloys and no matter which angle you view it from, it looks like it’s ready to tackle any terrain.
With the new vehicle, the brand has decided to do away with the single colour finish and brighten things up with a dual-tone interior. The beige definitely gives it that plush luxurious look, however, keeping the Indian environment in mind, beige tends to wear faster and its upkeep can be a bit of a challenge. In terms of creature comforts, the car comes packed with a long list which also includes the state-of-the-art multimedia interface with a large touchscreen that gives you access to all your connectivity needs. You also get a massive sunroof and to top it off, the cabin offers an abundance of space.
Under the hood of this vehicle, is the tried and tested 2.0-litre TDI unit that pumps out 190 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. It is mated to a seven-speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission that offers seamless shifts between gears and you can really get the automobile to move. To add to the dynamic drive, it also comes with multiple drive modes that include ‘Offroad’ and ‘Dynamic’ which change the setup of the vehicle accordingly to suit the terrain and driving style. Incidentally, the car can go from 0-100 kmph in just 7.9 seconds.
The new Q5 is a bold dynamic vehicle that ticks all the right boxes when it comes to the midsize luxury SUV segment. It is great to drive, extremely comfortable and comes with Quattro as standard. Safety features are also at an all-time high and as a package, it is a vehicle that delights. The new Q5 is expected to be priced competitively in the `55-60 lakh range.
