There is just something about owning a nice big SUV that appeals to our senses and while this could stem from our historically bad roads, the truth is that an SUV also works as an ideal family car. The bigger the SUV, the better. Within this class, you have the Isuzu mu-X—a capable family mover that can double up for some fun in the dirt, thanks to its amazing off-roading ability.
Take one look at the mu-X and you know that this is a vehicle that means business. It has the classic SUV stance with an air of dominance to it, and you can be assured that it will get heads to turn—if not for its classic looks, then for its sheer size! The big wheels, high bonnet, signature Isuzu grill, and headlights definitely add to the charm.

Well-equipped cabin
The extensive list of comfort and convenience features on the vehicle include climate control air-conditioning with cooling vents for all three rows, a separate blower control for the rear seats, power windows, cruise control, an integrated 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an eight-speaker surround sound system, and a roof-mounted DVD entertainment system. Utility features include two glove boxes, three power outlets, two USB ports, and loads of cup/bottle holders. Add to that, you have comfortable seating for seven people, making it ideal for large families.

Off-road ready
Powering the automobile is a 3.0-litre diesel engine that offers 177 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. It is mated to a five-speed sequential shift automatic transmission. The engine is touted to be rather frugal as well and is said to return 13.8 kilometres to the litre. The 4×4 variant mu-X gets a shift-on-the-fly select dial that offers both four-low and four-high options. It also gets snorkelled diff breathers to increase the wading depth and reduce mud blockage. Add to that, the vehicle comes with TCS and ESC, uphill and downhill drive control, 220 mm of ground clearance, a 30.1-degree approach angle and 25.1-degree departure angle, it can go up 30-degree inclines, and lean on a 47-degree slope if need be. Built to handle the punishment, the SUV gets a steel skid plate for underbody protection.

Final verdict
The Isuzu mu-X is an impressive SUV that is surprisingly easy to drive and offers great ride comfort as well. It is well appointed, very capable and quite powerful too. In many ways, it is the ideal vehicle for a large family that enjoys the spirit of adventure. With the pricing starting at `26 lakh onwards, it is a rather good deal too.
