From being a full-blown SUV that can handle the rough stuff to doubling up as a fine family transporter. For its category, the Isuzu mu-X has sold in decent numbers and has built a reputation for itself as that of a reliable and refined vehicle that is rather fun to drive. The new version is finally out in the market with a host of upgrades and it makes for a fine set of wheels.
Rugged look
The new car has held on to its classic robust appearance thanks to its massive proportions, however, the subtle changes that have been brought about on the vehicle now lend it a premium feel as well. The Bi-LED projector headlamps along with the DRLs have been tastefully done and looking rather striking. The tail lights benefit from accentuated LED position lights and you also get a two-tone rear spoiler, a shark fin antenna finished in gunmetal and to complete the package, the new SUV rides on large 18-inch multi-spoke diamond cut alloys.
Slicker cabin
The cabin of the new automobile has been spruced up as well in a bid to make it even more comfortable than before. To add that premium touch, the leather seats look more upmarket thanks to the quilt pattern stitch and the dashboard has been finished in soft-touch materials. You will also find dashes of silver and chrome accents which do their bit to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the mu-X cabin. The automobile retains the third row as well, which comes in handy when you want to ferry the entire family and a few extra guests around.
Big on safety
Apart from the robust build quality, it has also been kitted out with a plethora of safety features that include six airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), TCS (Traction Control System), HDC (Hill Descent Control) and ABS (Antilock Braking System), EBA (Emergency Brake Assist) and EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution).
Under the hood
Powering the new vehicle is a 3.0-litre diesel engine that is capable of churning out 177 PS of power and 390 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed sequential shift automatic transmission and is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. The 4x4 variant is offered with shift-on-the-fly technology and when you take into consideration the 230 mm of ground clearance and amazing approach and departure angles, you can rest assured that the SUV can deal with some pretty harsh terrain with ease.
