Kailash Kher, who along with his band Kailasa has delivered some memorable hits in the past (including the evergreen Teri Deewani), reveals that they are currently working on a new Hindi song. “We are coming up with a new song called Thamja. There are also other Government and private projects that go on simultaneously,” he shares, adding that he does not say yes to all projects that come his way. “I take the one that (I feel) is meant for me and gives me the right kind of vibe,” he says, adding that he tries composing new songs on the days he gets time to sleep. “With God’s grace we are always on our toes as there are shows almost every day all over the world,” he says.

The 45-year-old singer has also tied up with the music app called Learn to Sing — True School, which is conducting a digital singing contest. Participants are required to render their own version of Kailash’s patriotic song Bharat Ke Veer and upload it on the app, following which the singer will respond with personalised feedback for each entry.

“Music education is a cause I feel most strongly about. When Ashutosh Phatak, who runs the Mumbai-based music institute The True School of Music, came up with the idea of this contest, I didn’t think twice and jumped on board,” he says. “Bharat Ke Veer is a dedication for the paramilitary forces that serve us. There is a website called Bharat Ke Veer where you can donate directly to a martyr soldier’s family and be a part of it,” he informs, adding, “It’s what we can do as a citizen by contributing to them.”

Talking about the apparent dearth of patriotic songs in the country, Kailash says, “We have a lot of beautiful compositions. It is just that many have not heard about it. For instance, the band AR Divine that was launched on last month on my birthday (July 7) has made a beautiful song called Mere Watan, which is available on YouTube. But I am sure not too many have heard of it as these days everyone is busy with their own way of life and music.”

Earlier this year, Kailash added to his long list of interesting collaborations when he teamed up with American rapper Raja Kumari for Zee5’s reality show Lockdown, where they are seen reinventing old songs. Talking about the prevailing trend of reproducing old hits, Kailash is rather accommodating and gives a unique take on it, saying, “As generations evolve, their music senses are also becoming different. It’s like someone asking me if I would have organic food or  processed ones!”
