Pandita Anuradha Pal honoured with First Ladies Award

Tabla virtuoso Pandita Anuradha Pal is being presented with the Ministry of Women and Child Development's 'First Ladies Award' for exceptional women who transcended barriers to be the first in their fields. The award will be presented to her by the Honourable President of India, Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi on Saturday, 20th January. 

Known as the first professional female Tabla virtuoso in the World, Anuradha Pal holds the distinction of being the first and youngest female Indian musician to have performed at WOMAD (UK) and Woodstock Festival (Poland).

Besides being an exemplary Tabla soloist and versatile accompanist, she is also a critically acclaimed and highly sought after Music Composer and educator, with her albums Get Recharged!!! and Recharge Plus featuring among the best-selling World Music albums in India. 

She is also a ‘TOP’ Grade artist with Prasar Bharati and impaneled as an ‘Established’ musician on the prestigious panel of ICCR.

Anuradha has been acclaimed as the ‘Rhythm Queen’, ‘Youth Icon’, ‘Tabla Phenomenon’, ‘a Trailblazer and trendsetter for societies around the World’ by the Encyclopaedia Britannica, ‘Woman of Pure Wonder’ by Vodafone Foundation (2016) and one of the ‘prominent Torchbearers of India Classical Music’ (2017) in an acclaimed book, along with other outstanding young maestros.

She has made India proud by being the first and youngest female Indian musician to perform at the world-famous Woodstock Festival (Poland, 2008) for a mammoth audience of over 400,000 fan and at the WOMAD Festival (1999) for 150,000 plus fans.

She founded Sur aaur Saaz (SAS) a Music Organisation & label, which has featured young & veteran musicians in Festivals & ‘Music for Wellness’ workshops over 24 years and the Anuradha Pal’s Tabla Academy (APTA) in Mumbai. She is also an enthusiastic collaborator with Jazz, African, Latin, Flamenco, Crossover Classical, Pop, Rock and New-age musicians and composers, both as a live concert & sessions musician.
