When Mumbai-based singer Mohit Gaur tells you that he has “written 700 songs in the last 15 years”, you can’t help but be impressed. Although he’s released only a dozen of them online, he believes that there are miles to go before he drops his mic. A finalist of the reality show, India’s Raw Star, Mohit is all set to perform in Hyderabad for the fifth time. This time around, however, his performance will be a part of the tour of his recent song, Wahin. “Out of all the cities that I’ve performed in, Hyderabad has been my favourite. I love the energy the audience has here. I’m quite excited to be back,” says the Jaipur-born singer.

Released last month, Mohit’s song has already garnered more than six lakh views on YouTube. Talking about this ‘love song’, the 26-year-old says, “Most of us have stories from school and college that affect and change us as a person. This song also has a similar story about one of my close friends, Anya.” The five-minute melodious track is one of the four singles he’s released as part of his music project, Mohit Ke StorySongs.

For Mohit, songwriting is rather personal and is a reflection of his thoughts and emotions. His tryst with music began during his teenage years when he went back home and filled his diary with songs and poems. “My maternal grandpa is a folk singer. Every time I visited him, I’d be amazed to see his trophies and awards. I always wanted to have them too and be a singer like him.” Almost a decade and a half since then, Mohit is definitely living his dream having done more than 200 gigs and a dozen musical projects in hand for the rest of the year.

At Karma. July 14, 8 pm.
