The Padmavati controversy has been steadily increasing, with actress Deepika Padukone receiving threats to her safety. In response, Shabana Azmi created a petition to support Deepika, and nearly every major actress in the inudstry has signed the petition, including Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Vidya Balan and more. When approched for a signature, Kangana Ranaut refused.
A source reports, "Kangana refused point-bank. She said an outright no to signing the Deepika Bachao petition, much to Shabana’s shock and annoyance."
The relationship between the two actresses has housed a bit of hostility over the years, and Kangana has publicly confessed that the two of them are not friends. Back in 2014, when Deepika dedicated an award she won for her role in Happy New Year to Kangana, her gesture was met with discontent. Kangana said she would have preferred to have her performance praised on a personal level rather than in public.
The main reason for her lack of support, however, is said to be linked to the industry's silence for Kangana during her legal battle with Hrithik Roshan. A source says that she "probably feels no need to extend her support to anyone since no one supported her."
