The 75th Golden Globes had a complete blackout and will be remembered as the first awards show to take place after the Hollywood’s ciphering of the sexual assault, lead by the #MeToo movement. The guests marked the new era of awareness by wearing black and inviting activists to the red carpet or making brutal comments about the industry’s disgraced men.

Seth Meyers, hosting the Golden Globes turned directly into what he called the “Elephant not in the room” when he started his monologue by saying ' Good Afternoon Ladies and remaining gentleman' While the host prompted the booing of Weinstein with a joke about the deaths section of the Oscars telecast. The show then went on to celebrate the television shows and movies that were about women.

Fashion has always been a powerful tool for protest. An outfit is an actual expression and to ignore it is actually turning a blind eye. And that’s been the problem all along, to not be vocal. By wearing black, the men and women of Hollywood bring an end to the #MeToo and #TimesUp.

The #TimeUp initiative aimed at fighting sexual harassment in and outside of Hollywood. Stars walked hand in hand with the activists. Meryl Streep walked hand in hand with women’s activist Ai – Jen Poo at the awards.   Meryl Streep is reported to have made the following statement. 'We feel sort of emboldened in this particular moment to stand together in a thick black line dividing then from now. ' Laura Dern, Amy Poehler, Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Michelle Williams and Shailene Woodley say that on the red carpet, they will each be accompanied by activists in a range of fields. The campaign’s efforts range from the establishment of a legal fund to fight sexual harassment to symbolic statements like wearing black on the red carpet and now inviting activists to the Globes which was a huge success.

But there were three actresses who begged to differ, German model Barbara Meier, Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Meher Tatna and actress Bianca Blanco. Meier wearing a beige floral gown and Blanco opting for a risqué red gown. Tatna also wore red, the gown she chose with her mother. Meier took to Instagram to explain her decision, arguing that after years of struggling for freedom, women should be able to wear whatever they want. She posted on Instagram saying We were fighting for a long time for the freedom to wear what it is ok, to dress up a little sexier, she wrote, as translated from German to English. If we now restrict this, because some men can not control themselves, this is a huge step back in my opinion. We should not have to be serious. US women should shine, be colorful and sparkle. Just like it is our nature. In my opinion, this symbolizes our freedom and our new strength.

Here are some of the few women who walked the red carpet gracefully draped in black:

Nicole Kidman wore a Givenchy Haute Couture gown, Fred Leighton jewels, and an Omega watch to win the first award for the night for her performance in HBO's True Lies
