Shilpa Shetty on her obsession for coconut oil, and summer fashion essentials
What Shilpa Shetty can't live without this summer

Shilpa Shetty manages to evade all stereotype tags. One moment the gorgeous actor is gushing about the amba haldi and sour fruit growing in her kitchen garden, and the next instant she is seen nibbling on mini jalebis on Instagram or teaching her steadily growing tribe of YouTube followers how to cook! The wellness and yoga exponent who believes that, “There is never a wishlist for a woman! You want it, you get it!” — seamlessly transforms from a glam goddess to an animal activist to a hands-on mum, loves wearing a sari and declares petroleum jelly as the must-carry-always cosmetic. Honestly, it’s hard to believe that she is 45, but perhaps the ghee and coconut oil (the heroes on her dining table and dresser) have something to do with it? More on that and her culinary go-tos in the actor’s recently released book The Diary of a Domestic Diva. For now though, we sneak a peek into her daily handbag and wardrobe to scope out her summer rules.

About time
“I cannot be without my Apple watch. It keeps me in check. It lets me know how much I have burnt in terms of calories. It is connected to my phone so I can even talk on it.” Sporting a grey aluminium casing, the Nike+Watch comes with built-in GPS, heart rate sensor, gyroscope, light sensor and direct fire speaker and microphone, among other features. Rs 36,999. Amazon.in

Summer rose
“I have one rule for my sunnies – they have to cover my eyebrows.” This rose-tinted pair from Dita — one of her favourite brands — follows her rule and makes for a glam accessory for a summer brunch. From their Supa Dupa collection, this vintage oversized frame features a white rose crystal hue. Approximately Rs 37,285.

Sole garden
“Since my work is such that I am in high heels and shoes all the time – I like to keep my feet open and wear chappals otherwise.” Colourful and made of natural rubber, this pair from the Happy Pop collection by Methiyadi makes for an ideal addition to your wardrobe this season. Priced at Rs 799.

Little black book
“I have always loved food. In fact, everywhere I go, I carry a little book. Wherever I eat, I always take down notes and recipes in it.” To follow her lead, we pick this classic leather journal for you to pen down your own food chronicles. Handmade with recycled paper, it makes for a great gift idea too. Rs 3,608, Etsy.com

Glow factor
“I pour coconut oil on just about everything – from my skin, hair, navel to my food.” While the diva gets her stash from Mangalore, we suggest you smear on this organic, virgin, vegan coconut oil from Nutiva, and do try a spoonful on your culinary creations too. At Rs 6,764 for 444 ml, Amazon.in

Book mark
While Shilpa is busy balancing a soon-to-be-announced project centred on health, promoting her book and keeping up with her yoga — she does manage to catch up with her reading. Right now she is in the midst of Man’s Eternal Quest by Paramahansa Yogananda. Rs 240, hardback.

Tear & wear
“I am not a trend follower or brand loyalist. I am a white tee and boyfriend jeans kinda girl – though my husband has volunteered to stitch the tattered parts!” We find that this highly distressed denim pair from Forever 21 strikes the right mood, with the mid-rise waist and easy fit. Rs 2,249. Myntra.com

Scent seductive
“All my perfumes have an Indian touch of either sandal or jasmine. I am very old school that way.” She picks Tom Ford’s Santal Blush for the spicy sandalwood fragrance that has hints of exotic floral tones. 50 ml at Rs 12,355. Amazon.com
