Tamil actress Sangeetha arrested for allegedly running prostitution racket in Chennai

The involvement of the actress, popularly known for her role in Sun TV’s Vani Rani as Sundari Kaaliappan, came to light after the police received a tip-off.

Popular Tamil actress Sangeetha Balan was arrested on Sunday for allegedly running a prostitution racket in a Chennai resort. The involvement of the actress, popularly known for her role in Sun TV’s Vani Rani as Sundari Kaaliappan, came to light after the police received a tip-off about a flesh trade racket be run out of a private resort in Panayur, said report by a leading publication.

According to several media reports, the raid on the resort was conducted by Chennai police in the resort on East Coast Road, where the Tamil actress’ name came up along with a person named Sathish. After raid was conducted, the girls and women were rescued and sent to a rehabilitation centre. Most of the women are said to be from north India. Sangeetha and her alleged accomplice Sathish have been sent to jail after they appeared in front of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Egmore. 

Sangeetha made her debut with Tamil film Karuppu Roja in 1996 but has also worked in several movies as a character artiste and is also popular known for her roles in Unmai and Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum. The actress has also featured in many television serials like Chellamey, Valli, Aval and Annakodiyum Aindhu Pengalum, among others.
