We have a tendency to intimidate women over sexual harassment: Huma Qureshi

Huma said it is the same people who make women feel like the offender and not the man in sexual harassment cases.

Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi on Wednesday opened up about the problem of women being sexually harassed but she went on to add that women are always put in a position where they are made to feel like the victims. The Kaala actress said that women are made to feel like offenders and it is because of this victimisation that she feels the need to create a safer and comfortable environment for women. 

According to various media reports, Huma said that there is sexual harassment at the workplace because many people have the tendency to talk against a woman and intimidate her whenever she gets the courage to speak up about harassment. It is the same people who make her feel like the offender and not the man. The actress also went on to say that it is the responsibility of the society to make her feel safe and comfortable. Huma had earlier opened up about facing sexual advances from people in the film industry, the fashion industry and even other professions, she has come across. She added that men need to be a part of the change and start a dialogue to make women feel safe around them and only then can things start to change. 

The 31-year-old actress who is famous for her roles in Gangs of Wasseypur and Jolly LLB 2 said she is a feminist who believes in an equal world where men and women can come and live together. Huma went on to say that it cannot be done without men and there needs to be strong male role models so that other men can follow them. The actress also said that people need to start talking about the number of women working behind the scene like female technicians, women directors, editors and even camerapersons and she has seen a lot more of them than before, which is encouraging because it creates a safer environment.
