Late actor Raj Kapoor’s wife, Krishna Raj Kapoor, passed away at 87 due to a cardiac arrest on Monday morning. Speaking to a leading news agency, Krishna’s eldest son, Randhir Kapoor, confirmed the news saying, “My mother passed away at about 5 am today due to cardiac arrest... old age was another factor. We are deeply saddened by her demise.”
Though her sons, Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor are in Mumbai, actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted saying he left for the USA for medical treatment on Sunday. Her grandchildren Kareena, Karisma, Riddhima and Ranbir Kapoor are also currently in Mumbai.
She married legendary actor Raj Kapoor in May 1946, and is survived by Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor, Ritu Nanda and Reema Kapoor. The last rites are said to be performed at Chembur crematorium. In the last few years, Krishna Raj Kapoor has regularly attended her grandchildren's film screenings including the latest special screening of Sanju, starring Ranbir Kapoor. She was also spotted in family vacation albums abroad.
Celebrities from the fraternity also posted messages for the Kapoor family on social media.
