Days after writer-producer Vinta Nanda accused Alok Nath of raping her more than 19 years ago, the actor has filed a defamation suit against her for the allegations. The reaction comes after Vinta had written a detailed Facebook post about the incident during the shooting of Tara

Interestingly, Vinta is not the only one who spoke out against Alok Nath but also Sandhya Mridul and Deepika Amin. Other popular television actors like Renuka Shahane and Himani Shivpuri also stated that Alok Nath’s predatory behaviour on sets was common knowledge to most of the industry. However, the veteran actor’s lawyer Ashok Saraogi has said that it is easy to make allegations based on an incident that happened 19 years ago because that itself shows it is false. He also went on to add that if it was true, a person would have never waited so long to talk about it and make the allegations.

Ashok said it is has been done to defame Alok in the light of the recent #MeToo campaign and nothing more and all the allegations are false. Matters have turned worse for Alok Nath, as the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) have sent a notice to the actor questioning him about the allegations. While the #MeToo campaign has been going on for a year, in India, it recently picked up after Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual assault on the sets of Horn Ok Please and since then, director Vikas Bahl of the now-defunct Phantom productions has also been accused of sexually harassing an ex-employee, who was working with him at the time.
