Actress Amyra Dastur believes in chasing her dreams, one film at a time. Having debuted in 2013 with Issaq, the 25-year-old model-turned-actress has managed to carve a space of her own in the film industries — Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. “South Indian industry has been welcoming. But juggling multiple languages at the same time is quite stressful. This year, I plan to finish my Bollywood projects, before moving down South again,” says the Mumbai-based actress, who was in Hyderabad for swimwear brand Speedo’s first store launch. Talking about the brand, she says, “I’m quite the fitness freak. Some of my best memories with my mother have been swimming with her, wearing Speedo.” Born to Parsi parents in Mumbai, Amyra first began her journey as a model in commercials.

Fighting the odds
Amyra isn’t the one to mince her words when talking about rejection. When talking about her initial days, she confesses that it wasn’t a cakewalk. “There was definitely a lot of rejection. When you see a star kid has a film just because of their second name, it hurts,” shares Amyra. However, she didn’t let the negativity get to her. “My biggest lesson has been to move on. You learn, improve and focus on what you want to do,” she adds. The actress has been quite ‘careful’ in choosing niche roles — from the brave cop in Mr X to young North Indian girl with a buzz cut (Rajma Chawal). She will also be seen in the much-talked-about psychological thriller, Mental Hai Kya. With actors like Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut on board, Amyra shares that the filmmaking process was a great learning experience. “I was initially nervous, wondering if I could match up to them. I have always looked up to Kangana for having come this long way all by herself. A few scenes into the film, she complimented me and I was so star-struck,” she says, adding that she would love to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Rajamouli.

That apart, Amyra is gearing up for the release of her web series, The Trip 2. Co-starring Shweta Tripathi, Mallika Dua and Sapna Pabbi, the second season is similar to the first one, released in 2016 — four girlfriends who go on a road trip, which turns into an emotional roller coaster. “It’s great to be in a project that has an all-girl lead cast and travel with them extensively. The series talks so much about women working and succeeding together, a topic we must speak about,” she emphasises.

Fitness mantra
“I hit the gym in the morning and go for a dance class in the evening. I’m also a big foodie. So I
eat all I want but in minimum quantity and also make sure to sweat it out in the gym.”
