Talking to a leading media organisation, actor Ranveer Singh recently said that Rohit Shetty, who is directing the Padmaavat star in Simmba, is the ‘gold standard’ of masala films. “I’m very lucky and blessed that I’m under the guidance of the king of the genre (masala), Rohit Shetty. I’m making a foray into this genre in his film so it could not get any better. It's highly entertaining,” said the 33-year-old.

He further added that his upcoming film Simmba is a complete masala entertainer. “It is a full-blown masala film. I believe masala films are the holy grail of mainstream Hindi films. In terms of genre, it is the king of all genres,” he said.

In Simmba, Ranveer will be seen playing a flamboyant policeman, Sangram Bhalerao. “A substantial story drives the narrative of the film. There is intense drama. There are comedic bits. Just what you expect that a mainstream Hindi audience loves is that all these flavours come into one film and that is one man who crafts it so beautifully, Rohit Shetty. So, we are hoping to set a new benchmark for this genre,” said Ranveer.

It also stars Sara Ali Khan and Sonu Sood, and is inspired by Telugu hit, Temper, starring Jr NTR. Produced by Karan Johar and Reliance Entertainment, the action drama is scheduled to hit the screens on December 28.
