The Baahubali saga: Movie enters the $100 million club

The most anticipated movie of the year, Baahubali - The Conclusion opened doors for its audience worldwide on April 28. With the movie being screend in more than 9000 screens, the movie has set new records at the box office.

If you have been following the Baahubali saga, the film directed by SS Rajamouli, has been making the headlines everyday with its daily collection. Currently, the movie has collected more than Rs 600 cr worldwide.

The figures are not a fact to be surprised. The pre-release hype and promotions around the Prabhas and Rana Daggubati magnum opus, saw many experts anticipating that the sequel to SS Rajamouli's 2015 blockbuster to cross the Rs 1000 cr mark.

Well, it won't surprise many if the film goes beyond what was expected. Bookmyshow reported that the online portal sold more than 3.3 million tickets on the opening day - around 12 tickets every second. The movie had a grand opening and collected more than Rs 100 cr across India on Day one. Baahubali: The Conclusion left behind Bollywood films like Dangal (Rs 29 cr) and Sultan (Rs 36 cr) far behind in the opening day race.

To be more specific, the Hindi dubbed version colleced more than Rs 37 cr on Day one. However, the Hindi version failed to cross Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year's opening day collection which stands at Rs 44 cr.

The following weekend also so major marktes like Hyderabad, Mumbai and other cities across India with housefull shows even in non-core areas. The second and the third day collection saw the movie collecting more than Rs 400 cr overall. Baahubali 2, has already left behind the collection of its own predecessor which earned a total of Rs 6.5 billion. Reports suggest that the sequel has already collected more than Rs 700 cr. At present Baahubali 2, is third at the box office collection charts. PK takes the top spot with Rs 792 cr and Dangal fills the second with Rs 730 cr. However, with more than 90-95 percent occupancy rates on Day six, Baahubali 2 is sure to take the top spot in a few days from now.

That is not all. Baahubali series has taken Indian cinema on the global charts like no other film. The opening weekend saw Baahubali 2 ($10,138,189) take the third spot at the US Box office with Fate of the Furious ($19,389,780) and How To Be A Latin Lover ($12,018,500) at number one and two respectively. Baahubali 2 leaves behind Tom Hanks and Emma Watson starrer The Circle at the US Box office.

This leaves SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 at the edge of entering the USD 2 billion club. James Cameron's Avatar collected more than USD 2.7 billion and stands tall at the number one spot with the director's Titanic and J J Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) completing the elite club.

Now that SS Rajamouli's Prabhas and Rana Daggubati starrer Baahubali 2 has already collected over $100 million, let us hope that the movie will slowly enter the elite list before the whole saga becomes history at the box office.

The movie also made Prabhas the first South Indian actor to have a waxed statue at Madame Tussauds museum.
