One of contemporary Bollywood’s first cult classics, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge celebrates 22 years since its release in 1995, and fans on social media just cannot have enough. 

Reflecting on its ability to charm audiences across ages, Twitterati went into nostalgia mode, as fans reminisced on the sweet romance with the phrase “22 years of timeless DDLJ”. The topic soon took a trending spot on Twitter, with users posting photos of the lead stars (Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol) with notes of adoration and facts/trivia about the iconic film.

Aditya Chopra’s debut film not only redefined love in Bollywood but also defined the career of the two lead stars, which was their third movie together after Baazigar and Karan Arjun. DDLJ that propelled them to the collective consciousness of countless Bollywood fans, both in India and abroad, and made them hot property for numerous other film projects.

It also officially beat Sholay in 2001 as the longest running film in Indian cinema history, at 1,009 weeks (compared to Sholay’s 286). The Maratha Mandir cinema continued to screen DDLJ for nearly twenty years, until the February of 2015.
