Dream Baby Dream, a dance, theatre and music production is described as an alternate view of the persisting reality. “The whole idea behind creating this performance is that it doesn’t belong to any one particular art form or genre,” explains Sahiba Singh, who conceptualised the production and is the lead choreographer. “There is a common narrative thread of dreaming throughout the performance. Dreams that scare us, and make us happy. Dreams that are bizarre and also enlightening. Through this confluence of music, dance and theatre, we have tried to present our dreams as we see them,” she explains further. The production, on stage tonight, features 10 dancers/actors, along with musicians.

The performance features anecdotes, stories and visuals on topics ranging from quantum theory to food, flowers and even suicidal thoughts. Talking about themes, Sahiba explains that the production explores the surreal bond between the verbal and the visual world. “So we play with space, time, colour and objects. As we play with these objects and their alternate realities, we juxtapose emotions with it —  questioning existence itself,” she tells us.

The music for the production has been done by the The Sarjapur Blues Band. The band, comprising Vinoo Matthew and Shekhar Seshadri, has done sound design as well as live vocals. The music is inspired by Blues and has a unique urban contemporary feel. The lyrics will mostly be improvised during the performance.
