Down to a fine art

Down to a fine art

This week saw a little bit of everything, with the good citizens of Chennai out and about enjoying the wonderful weather we’ve been having. My weekend started off at Amortela, where the ladies were flocking to meet artist Razia Kunj at the launch of her limited edition line of hand-painted jewellery. The pieces, inspired by themes from across India, find themselves in the comfortable niche where ‘art intersects with fashion’. It only made sense that almost every single person who walked in found something they loved. For me, it was the statement cocktail ring that Razia herself was wearing, which she was nice enough to have me try on. I was instantly in love.  Hashtag ‘had to have it’.

The art theme continued into Saturday where one of the many events for the evening included ‘Art for Vision,’ a charity exhibition at Art Houz, in collaboration with World Vision India. The fundraiser, which included the works of well-established artists, saw the swish set in attendance. Meanwhile, across town, the red carpet was being laid out but instead of the usual models, these were the four-legged furry kind. Twisty Tails on Haddows Road opened its doors giving people a serious dose of ‘puppy love’. The new pet-friendly café has doggy hosts who are more than happy to spend time with patrons. We even got to see them walk the ramp with a little help from their owners. And those who weren’t busy cuddling pooches were at The Westin Chennai Velachery for the launch of Dressology a book on power dressing, by Nandita Pandey. Aruna Sairam did the honours of launching the event to a crowd of corporate heads, business owners, publishers and popular Chennai faces.

I wound up the week with the Naturals team where I got to meet celebrity makeup artist Ojas Rajani, who was in town for a special training session. Besides picking up some useful tips and tricks, I was privy to some hilarious stories, as Ojas illustrated her points. From the hardships of making it in the industry to celebrity tantrums, alongside how to get those perfectly contoured cheekbones, all delivered in her signature style.
