Paloma gives us a round-up of her weekend from House of Bazzar to the launch of Kokommo
Beachy chic and a smokey eye

I feel like I’m repeating myself when I say that it was a jam-packed weekend, with our schedules getting busier despite the rising temperatures. We owed this week’s chock-a-block roster, in part to House of Bazaar, a three-day event at Palladium Chennai. The uber-luxurious mix of fashion, food, beauty and lifestyle drew a mix of Chennai’s popular faces, happy to be up front and center at the sessions on offer. I, for one, was thrilled to be as close as one could get at a workshop by make-up guru Namrata Soni. No surprises that the place was packed, with all the ladies hanging on to her every word.

Namrata showed the crowd how to create a ‘smokey eye’ (one of the pillars of night-time make-up looks), along with several pointers on how to achieve it flawlessly. The Q & A session that followed would have easily gone on for a couple of hours if Edward Lalrempuia didn’t intervened.

The next stop was the launch of Kokommo, a Tiki Shack at the Intercontinental Hotel. Long drive or no, the beachside sundowner saw quite the crowd, especially expats, all looking ‘beachy chic’ and in the mood to party. It was a fabulous atmosphere, as guests sipped on fruity cocktails, while the DJ played against the backdrop of the waves. Bare feet in the sand replaced stilettos, as everyone enjoyed the Goa vibe. The city also had lots to offer for music buffs with two back-to-back gigs during the weekend. With Chennai’s summer breeze for company, Kerala-based When Chai Met Toast delivered an absolute firecracker of a performance at Phoenix MarketCity. They performed favourites like Beautiful World, Joy of Little Things and Fireflies. On the other end at Sir Mutha Venkata Subba Rao Concert Hall, Bengaluru-based progressive rock band Agam performed songs from their latest album, A Dream to Remember. Their Koothu Over Coffee track stood out, getting everyone up on their feet, and clapping along.

Craving your grandma’s food? Well, our last stop was at Paati Veedu in T Nagar. This newly opened eatery not only has a home-like ambience, but also offers traditional food made using ancestral recipes.
