Rain and retail therapy

A rundown of all the happening scenes over the past week

It really was a ‘Chennai goes to Bangalore’ type situation this weekend at The Hatworks Boulevard on Cunningham Road, Bengaluru. The crowds had gathered, many of whom had made the long drive, for ‘Exhibit 03’, a Men’s Lifestyle Exhibition, curated by the Osman brothers. Bassam, Gibran and Hisham Osman have some serious crowd-pulling power, which they wielded yet again, despite stormy skies threatening to play spoilsport. Rain or shine, it didn’t matter, with Bengaluru’s popular faces landing up to check out everything from retro clothing to homemade chocolate. The star of the show (and selfie central) was a vintage Ford V8 Phaeton Body Tourer.

Meanwhile, back in Chennai the One People Festival was underway at Chariot Beach Resort, Mahabalipuram. The all-encompassing line-up resulted in quite a mixed group of people, spread out across multiple zones. Without generalising too much — the younger crowd stayed put at the Electronic and techno stage with “Vachan Chinnappa dropping some sick beats’’ (to quote one of the aforementioned audience members) while the slightly older group spread out to the Alternative and other areas. One of the highlights was the decor, providing some serious ‘photo op’ fodder, all of which was more than made use off, showcased in all its glory on Instagram. The young ladies also seemed to be channeling a little bit of ‘Coachella’ with their sartorial choices. Some really fun outfits… I more than approve!

Of course a week in Chennai can’t pass by without some fashion and shopping. The Duchess Utsav 2018 show, choreographed by Sunil Menon saw fun sequences with a mix of clothing and accessories. What caught my eye was a range of accessories called ‘Hotch Potch’ by NIFT student Samiha — definitely someone to watch out for. It goes without saying the ladies of the Duchess Club rocked the ramp, styled beautifully by Nina Reddy.

Next stop was at Express Avenue for a trunk show-slash-fashion showcase by Sunita Agarwal, in the lead up to the festive season. Popular favourites were Lakmé Fashion Week designers Julie Shah and Arvind Ampula, with a fashion show set to live music.
