Chennai´s weekly events: architecture, photogrphy, fashion shows and more

Chennai hosted many cultural events last week.
Conrad, Kavita, SIdney Sladen, Ritesh and Ramkumar.

My week was a mix of things, like something out of a rather strange dream. But if I’m being honest, every other week in Chennai feels like something out of a weird dream, or even better, a TV drama. While I have enjoyed the running commentary on social media, with the ‘common people’ giving us their view on the proceedings, I shall firmly stick to the less controversial and more light-hearted events of the week. Here’s the recap.
Saturday saw the coming together of art and science, as I got to be a part of

the finale of ‘Transparence’ at Le Meridien, a nationwide architecture

competition by Saint Gobain. Not my area of study or expertise, in case you’re wondering, but this is still an annual event that I really look forward to. To sum it up, amazing designs by some of the most talented students from across the country, with Kunal Jain and Shivani Agarwal from IPS Academy, Indore, bagging the `75,000 prize to much cheer from the crowd. Meanwhile, across town at Art Houz, a select group had gathered for the launch of A Ride Through Life, a Street Photography Exhibition by Karthik Srinivasan. The celebrity photographer, who has become quite the celebrity himself, was at his spiffy best, in black and white, as were most of the guests, come to think of it, following the theme of the photographs on display.

Next on the agenda was Valentine’s Day with something on offer at every spot

across the city. The hardcore romantics were at Aqua enjoying the specially curated five-course aphrodisiac menu. Oyster shooters anyone? Or perhaps some dark chocolate and paprika mousse? On the flip side, and this is my favourite part, was the ‘Anti-Valentine's Day’ party at Leather Bar, complete with karaoke and other elements to help you forget your romantic troubles. It looks like several groups of ladies were taking advantage of ‘Gal-entines day’ (it gets tricky, but stay with me), vetoing romance for a chance to have a night out with the girls. More such fun was to be seen at Radio Room with Valentine’s Collab, featuring Kavita Thomas, Ritesh Dharmaraj, Conrad Simmons and Ramkumar Kanakarajan coming together with our favourite mushy classics.
And just when you’re thinking, ‘a week without a fashion show?’ think again, because ending the week was the Max Spring-17 showcase at Forum Vijaya Mall. The twist this time was that the models were popular fashion bloggers who put their unique twist on the collection, featuring everything from tailored jumpsuits to nautical stripes and tropical prints.
