Most eco-conscious beauty junkies swear by essential oils for its beauty benefits. Researchers have for long been advocating going green and shunning parabens and preservatives. With that philosophy in mind, Raipur-based Shubhika Jain launched RAS Luxury Oils in July this year. “The brand might only be four months old, but my mom (who is the co-founder), my R&D team including two scientists and I have been researching for over two years,” says the graduate of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi.
Ayurveda manual
On November 1, the brand of luxury oils –that derives its name from the ‘ras’ (pronounced ‘ruh-us’) from Sanskrit, which means essence – was launched at the spa section of Park Hyatt Hyderabad. “We wanted to fuse Ayurvedic practices with modern scientific research, for therapeutic skincare,” says Subhika, who took several courses to understand the effects that various beauty oils and aromatic herbs have on the skin and the properties that can help enhance it.
Production to packaging
Meticulous in her approach, this entrepreneur believes in start from scratch and being a part of the entire production process. She is clued in about most aspects, from obtaining ingredients to packaging. She even grows some aromatic herbs, including lemongrass and patchouli, at a farm close to Raipur. Apart from being eco-friendly, the label even attempts to be socially conscious. “We donate 10 per cent of our profits to charities that support the girl child and local animal welfare drives,” says the 23-year-old, adding that her products are becoming increasingly popular in Hong Kong and Russia. To make sure the therapeutic properties are intact, Shubhika also takes care that they are packaged carefully. So mostly packed in glass bottles to increase the shelf-life and minimise usage of plastics.
Time honoured blends

Bliss Liquid Luxury, a body oil that comprises a mix of jasmine, vetiver, geranium and lavender essential oil, is a fix for winter ravaged dry skin. For the first-time buyers, there are assorted miniature bottles that combines some of the top picks of their products in sample sizes.
