Ahmedabad-based designer Purvi Doshi has created her latest Spring/Summer collection inspired by the Audrey Hepburn-starrer 1953 movie Roman Holiday. However, she has reimagined it in the modern Indian context. What would it be like if a princess in today’s India wanted to go out and experience herself in the real world like Princess Ann. What would she wear?  “I love the classic and the dresses that Audrey Hepburn wore in the film and always wanted to create something inspired by it,” says the designer who has named the collection after the film. There is also a distinct fusion element in her latest designs as she has also incorporated elements of Kutch way of dressing.

Although known for her colourful ensembles, this time she focussed on a monochrome palette with a few streaks of yellow. “I am a person who loves colours and I wanted to challenge myself; hence I chose to work with a black and white palette this time.” She has chosen to craft her ensembles out of Khadi, keeping the sustainable fashion norms and the season in mind. You can keep an eye out for her ankle-length maxi dresses, short dresses layered with jackets  and palazzos.

The main draw, however, is the sari gown – the elegantly stitched sari comes with a layered blouse and a pallu worn in the front. In Hyderabad, her latest collection is available at multi-designer store Anonym.

Price: Rs 8,000.
