Kolkata-based designer duo Sweta Tantia and Priyangsu Maji, who debuted in Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) with their upscale brand, Garo, will be showcasing their autumn-winter collection, Unchartered, in this year’s LFW. This collection is a part of Tahweave, their new handcrafted, slow fashion brand that predominantly concentrates on hand weaves and minimal embroidery and promotes regional craft.

The collection theme is inspired by mystical rocky terrain of the Irish mountain landscapes on a magical night. The tranquillity of the landscape is what inspired the designers. Unchartered brings together the colours of Irish landscapes and their vibrant culture, besides trying to replicate a darkly romantic atmosphere that places one right in the centre of nature’s rugged beauty.

“We at Tahweave believe in reviving hand crafted clothes and recreating weaves from across the world. The stress is more on weaves and less on embroidery  to help accentuate the ensemble,” says Sweta Tantia, who aims at providing people with a range of affordable and comfortable organic clothing perfectly suitable for a tropical country like India.

The collection has a lot of dresses made of organza and wool blends. Keeping the festive season in mind, bright hues have been used, from mint to teal blues, blush pinks to wine shades, burgundy and chocolate brown. Since the collection comprises winter fashion, too, cotton and silk blends have also been used. The outfits are all Indo-Western with a lot of layering and structured silhouettes. “We haven’t done any anti-fit clothing, since everybody is doing it nowadays and also because most teenagers and youngsters prefer wearing clothes that enhance their structures,” says Tantia.

The collection deals with women’s contemporary occasion wear and there are palazzos, longer tunic dresses, draped dresses and structured overlays to choose from.

“With this collection we are paying homage to the natural beauty that surrounds us, the landscapes that people usually ignore. The mountains are the source of our inspiration for this collection that reflects their rugged beauty and glory,” says Priyangsu Maji.

Tahweave, in which Tah means folds and seams in Sanskrit, was created in June 2017 and caters to conscious, nature loving people, who believe in wearing handcrafted and hand woven, breezy casual and formal wears.

Tahweave’s Unchartered collection will be showcased on August 26, noon at St Regis, Lower Parel, Mumbai
