Homegrown indie label, The Meraki Project, has been a conversation starter for more ways than one. Founded by Hyderabad-based Sonali Pamnani Jhabakh, the label not only unveiled a new collection crafted from ikat, but also launched a digital magazine that discusses hard-hitting topics. For instance, their first post talks about colourism and gives it an arty spin.

Blocks and patterns
In her latest collection, IKA-BLOC, Sonali and her team of artisans have experimented with the technique of hand block printing. “We’ve created custom prints that are geometrical in nature, and we’ve gotten those prints block printed on super soft mulmul fabric,” says the founder of the four-year-old label. The silhouettes are breezy, with a lot of gathers and anti-fit. Look out for their kurtas with stripes, red hand block printed maxi dress and the blue ruffled dress.

The bigger picture
Sonali always eyes the larger picture and she looks beyond her collections.  “I want to make clothes that makes you feel like you’re a part of something bigger,” says the designer whose collections are inspired by stories. Hence, the digital magazines she believes was a natural progression. “Each collection of the label has always been inspired by a topic that either makes a difference to the society, or that celebrates individuality in the world we live in,” she says, adding that she wanted to create a space to celebrate thought-provoking content. Both her clothes and the first digital magazine issue, are available on her website, themerakiproject.com.
