Textured trail- Rehwa’s pop-up exhibition at Kanakavalli

Any sari you pick at a Rehwa exhibition is six yards of alluring history. As Rehwa, the Maheshwar- based textile brand brings its rich textile legacy to Coimbatore in a pop-up exhibition for the second time since 2014, expect to see a wide range of their signature Maheshwari saris in cotton, silk and linen. Showcasing a range of crisp yet easy to drape saris in bright yellows, greens and pinks, the three-day exhibition this time features Maheshwari saris in a vibrant summer palette.

“We will be presenting our Spring / Summer collection at the exhibition this time. In addition to cotton and silk saris, a fine count of linen weaves, made light and airy for the summer weather, will also be featured,” says Anagha Raut, the head of marketing of Rehwa.

Originally woven with pure silk, the Maheshwari weaving tradition goes back a 1000 years and Rehwa, the textile brand/NGO was established back in 1978 with an intention to revive Maheshwar’s hand-woven textiles. From patterns of bricks of the forts to Laharia designs evocative of the ripples of river Narmada, the simple geometric patterns and motifs seen in the Maheshwari sari borders are inspired by the historical city. Apart from the rich sari border, the translucence of the textile is what makes a Maheshwari sari perfect for any occasion. A range of Shibori-dyed saris, the brand’s latest addition, woven in fine classic checks and dyed to match the summer mood board will also be showcased at the exhibition.
