Check out Archana & Puneeth's Autumn/Winter collection

3D motifs on Ikat define Archana and Puneeth’s new collection.

While making an appearance at an award ceremony a few months ago, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, wore a monochrome sari that made the fashion conscious folks in the city sit up and take notice. Breaking some myths, she draped it with a reverse collar shirt and a belt. The maverick designer duo from Hyderabad, Archana and Puneeth, who had designed her outfit, instantly shot to fame post that and became a household name. Celebs such as Tejaswi Madivada and Jwala Gutta have also been spotted in their ensembles. They recently launched their Autumn/Winter collection 2017, titled, A Yarn Sewtra.

Close to nature
“Our Autumn/Winter collection offers a red carpet look with a handloom couture base,” says Archana Manchala who adds that the two fabrics they have worked with are chiefly Ikat and a bit of Kora. The prints are enhanced by handcrafted flowers, leaves and corsages juxtaposed with geometric  3D texturisation. The collection is inspired by nature so the embroidery are next to minimal, but zebra stripes and peacock motifs are a mainstay for this line. The colour scheme that they have stuck to is earthy – mostly black, ivory, green and blue. Crafted out of indigenous weaves, the outfits in their line definitely have a sustainable edge.

Breaking myths
A Yarn Sewtra offers a range of saris paired with jackets, reverse collar shirts and belts – the styles in their repertoire are chic and avant-garde. The Horizon Fringe Sari, with reverse collar and 3D embellishments of flowers and petals, that Samantha had made famous also finds a place in their fall collection. Their Moon Shadow Corset Dress, again in monochrome is a dreamy sartorial affair with an emphasis on the waistline and is characterised by a thigh-high slit. Puneeth G, the other half of Archana and Puneeth, concludes by saying that their patrons must watch out for their prêt collection in November.  Also, the men can look forward sleek ensembles with straight fits and vintage vibes which will soon be added to this collection.

Price: Rs 5,000 onwards for prêt.
