As far as statements go, Nicobar’s is easy, laidback and distinctly resort-centric. Delhi-based Jewellery boutique, Nimai’s on the other hand is decidedly indie, with a touch of formal and dressy vibes. As we near the business end of another year, the two brands bring their aesthetics together, for a curated pop-up of festive wear. Nicobar’s Bengaluru store will kickstart the four-city pop-up which will then stop off at Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad.
“Nicobar is inspiring a modern Indian way in a borderless world. At Nimai, we share the same sensibility and are committed to celebrating jewelry that is handcrafted, artisanal and made in India. We work towards creating awareness about a new breed of local jewelry talent that is breaking the mould by innovating with unique techniques and mediums to create modern jewelry with a strong Indie element,” says Nimai’s founder, Pooja Roy Yadav, about the collaboration.
Pooja’s team will bring down a collection of labels such as Kichu, Dhora and Deepa Gurnani. Keeping the festive season in mind, the curated collection is heavy on metallic and golden tones, though the designs are not necessarily elaborate. “We decided to bring forth a fresh approach to festive dressing - easy, breezy, comfortable and something that is for women on the go,” explains Pooja. The brand Kichu for instance, is minimalistic and takes inspiration from tribal aesthetics, but still would be perfectly at home at a Diwali party as well as at a poolside brunch.
Nicobar will be showcasing their festive collection, Autumn Bloom, which looks towards the history of China for inspiration. Going a bit darker with their palette (think black, deep red and olive), the fabrics used vary between Chanderi, mashru, silk cotton, poplin and knit. Clever use of gold foil, sequins and zari ensures the garments make the festive cut, while silhouettes include dresses, tunics, tops, trousers and kurtas.
