Fourth and the last on her list of stopovers, the three-year-old Salt Studio by Divya John comes to the city with a trunk show. Having showcased different collections at Bengaluru, Hyderabad and then Chennai, the Kochi-based label brings two of their collections — Vedic and Nova — at a one-day pop-up at Whispering Stones on October 7. Predominantly featuring western silhouettes and cuts on traditional Indian attire, look out for a range of heavily embellished apparel and casual wear in vibrant hues.

By the tale

Inspired by the early Vedic period, Salt Studio’s Vedic collection draws heavily from the paintings and sculptures of the period and is translated as motifs — floral art, peacocks and geometric designs — on silk, cotton and silk cotton. “Mythology has it that Chanderi was founded by Shishupala, the cousin of Lord Krishna, and chanderi saris are predominantly made of silk, cotton and silk cotton, which explains our choice of fabrics,“ says designer Divya John, adding, “Incorporating the fabric alongside the staple chanderi motifs fit into the creative ideology of the line — a marriage of Vedic motifs on modern silhouettes.” The collection comes with bright zardosi embroidery and adds a certain festive charm to the apparel. Expect to find a range of skirts, box pleated palazzos, dresses and anarkalis.

Butterfly effect

Young at heart, the second collection titled Nova, consists of an array of crop tops, casual tops, dresses and skirts in a colour palette of blue, beige, purple, pink and gradient shades of orange. Representing the carefree spirit of a young native American woman, butterflies are the predominant motifs of the line. With minimal embellishments, the collection works better as a casual wear, unlike Vedic which is festive.

Foraying into the online space with the launch of the label’s own website, Salt Studio is also working towards setting up physical stores in Bengaluru and Chennai among others.

Rs 3,000 onwards. At Whispering Stones. 10 am to 8 pm. Details: 9946956888
