The perfect cut

Growing up in the world's diamond capital Antwerp in Belgium, Nirav's interest in diamonds piqued as he grew up listening to dinner table conversations about diamonds. The designer also drew inspiration from his mother, an art collector and an interior designer. So what makes a Nirav Modi creation so unique? "It's the use of ingenious setting techniques, that makes a hallmark Nirav Modi creation," says the man himself.

"With the use of minimal metal, that allows for a beautiful display and scintillation of the rare gems. The perfect play of light, movement and fluidity lie at the heart of every Nirav Modi creation. We have even developed a patented cut called the Ainra cut®. It was specially designed to reduce the amount of metal used in jewels." This special technique creates a chain link from two curved cut diamonds and meticulously creates an all-diamond link, obliterating the need for a metal chain, immediately giving necklaces and collars incredible lightness, silken flexibility and a wondrous glow of light, fire and brilliance.

Taking inspiration from Sakura flowers in Japan, Nirav's new solitaire diamond collection resonates of voluminous beauty and rich symbolism in Japanese culture. " They are exquisite two-toned jewels," explains Nirav. "Solitaire diamonds shimmer and sparkle, reflecting their vivid light onto glittering frames. Micro-set diamonds add exceptional light reflections, adding finesse to the rose gold petal outline. The jewels are romantic, elegant and feminine."

Exquisite and special

The brand's craftsmanship and their exquisite collection of diamonds are their biggest pride. He explains how every piece is important and unique to them. "Our signature Embrace collection is very special to me," says Nirav. "The design for these bangles was inspired by my daughters’ elastic toy bangles and the idea behind their conception was to make a jewel that is playful and also embodies a deeper emotional connection with the wearer. It is an engineering marvel: the collection took a decade of research to perfect. To ensure a superb fit, the Embrace® Bangles are expertly crafted using more than 90 moveable parts and thousands of diamonds to create wondrous patterns and brilliant plays of light – it takes 150 hours of craftsmanship to create each bangle"
