A new cafe themed on London opens in Whitefield

Bloomsbury, the dessert cafe

While pastry shops and cafes have been around in Bengaluru for a long time, just a handful can be classified as theme-based. Bloomsbury Boutique Cafe and Artisan Bakery is the newcomer in this league. Opened in Whitefield, Bloomsbury describes itself as a dessert cafe.

Globe over
Themed on London, Blooms-bury is a quirky space with interiors that reminds one of the prominent touristy spots in the capital of England. On the contrary, the menu is an assortment of fast food from all over the globe. From American, Tex-Mex, Italian and Chinese to Middle Eastern and Indian, there are lots of options on the menu. We started our meal with a ‘Juice Concoction’ of carrot, orange and ginger. With zero sugar, this  was the perfect appetiser and cooler all rolled into one.
Veg taco with falafel and fries was the first dish on our plate. The taco filled with raw veggies was light and paired well with the crisp falafel. Next, we tried the Potato Wedges with Chicken Ragu. Oddly enough, this strange combination seemed to work. The spicy ragu turned out to be the best accompaniment to the potato wedges — definitely worth a try. The Bang Bang Prawns were served next. The crisp batter with the meaty prawns within made it hard to stop at just one.

Sinful treats
For mains, we tried the Spaghetti with Smoked Chicken, Broccoli and Thyme Butter Cream and the Paneer Tikka Masala. The former is recommended only for those with a big appetite. The paneer tikka masala served with Basmati rice turned out to be the winner. The soft, pillowy paneer had soaked up the gravy, which had a hint of garam masala. We also tried the Country Style Farmhouse Pizza — what’s special is that the rectangular foot-long base is made in-house.
For desserts, we picked a ‘cake and a shake.’ The signature Golden Chocolate Cake decorated with golden roses seemed too fine to be eaten. Though less on sugar, the chocolaty three-layer cake is a sinful dessert.
But it was the Tiramisu Cake Banana Cream blended shake that stood out. The banana flavour was the most prominent in this rich and creamy concoction. Served with a topping of cream and coffee beans, this one cannot be missed, even if you’ve had a heavy meal. Take a sip and you won’t regret it.
With such an eclectic menu, Bloomsbury has something to offer for all.
